Application for Funded Youth Participation: Stockholm+50 International Meeting and Stockholm+50 Youth Assembly 2022

Background & Avenues of Participation 

On behalf of the Children and Youth Major Group, in cooperation with the Swedish National Youth Council and constituent youth organizations in Kenya, we are pleased to invite young people and youth organizations worldwide to join an unprecedented mobilization of young people in environmental governance as we head towards the Stockholm+50 International Meeting.

“Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity”,  is an international  meeting hosted by the United Nations system that will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2022, during the week of World Environment Day, to commemorate the 50 years since the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and its outcome documents, accelerate global action and delivery for sustainable development, including a sustainable recovery from COVID19 pandemic. UNEP serves as the coordinating UN agency for this process. This provides an opportunity for the international community to strengthen cooperation and show leadership in the transformation towards a more sustainable society.

The Stockholm+50 Youth Assembly will take place on 30th/31st of May – 1st June (exact dates to be confirmed) in a hybrid format as a youth preparatory event for the Stockholm+50 bringing together youth organizations and movements worldwide. The International Meeting and Youth Assembly will be held further in conjunction with independent events such as the 4th UN Science Policy Business Forum (SPBF) from the 31st May – 4th June, and the Summit of the UN One Planet Network toward the end of May 2022.  

Funded Opportunities 

With support from various donors (elaborated below), spots for participation are available for young people toward the above-mentioned events, starting from 30/31 May  2022 to 4 June 2022 (excluding days of travel)The funded opportunity is intended to bring children and youth from all regions of the world to Stockholm, with aim to a) build capacity among children and youth when it comes to their understanding of United Nations processes and environmental governance b) enable networking between youth advocates globally and c) enable policy advocacy of children and youth in the relevant deliberations towards more environmental protection and meaningful youth engagement.

  1. International air travel to and from Stockholm for the dates of the event in Stockholm 
  2. Costs pertaining to arranging Schengen visa, where applicable (such as visa fee, travel to the Embassy, etc.) 
  3. Travel health insurance 
  4. Any necessary COVID-19 tests (including PCR testing required for travel)  
  5. Cost of food (either pre-paid meals or fixed food allowance based on average meal cost in Stockholm)
  6. Accommodation for up to approximately 5 nights (check-in on the 30th May, and check-out on the 4th June) based conference duration and other commitments related to the conference 
  7. No further DSA or salary or any other support will be provided apart from the items listed above. 

Travel funding-only spots include the following benefits for selected youth:

  1. International air travel to and from Stockholm for the dates of the event in Stockholm 
  2. Costs pertaining to arranging Schengen visa, where applicable (such as visa fee, travel to the Embassy, etc.) 
  3. No further DSA or salary or any other support will be provided apart from the items listed above.

In order to be eligible:

  • The applicant must be under the age of 35 at the time of application
  • If selected,
    • And above the age of 18, the applicant must be available to travel, stay and fully attend the program from 29th of May until 5th of June  2022 (including travel dates)
    • And is below the age of 18, the applicant + one chaperone of the applicant must be  available to travel, stay and fully attend the program from 29th of May until 5th of June  2022 (including travel dates)
  • Be fully vaccinated through WHO-approved vaccines until 10th May 2022, as per the current requirements for access to the UN conference. This means:
  • both doses of vaccines administered before 10th May 2022 for Pfizer / Moderna / Sinopharm / Sinovac / AstraZeneca / Covishield / Novavax / Covaxin
  • OR one dose of vaccine administered before 10th May 2022 for Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) 

Please note that the current COVID-19 situation means that entry requirements may be subject to change at short notice. The applicant should also confirm that they meet vaccination requirements for any transit required during their travel and return from Stockholm. A further, updated, COVID 19 protocol guide will be made available to all selected delegates.
