Afrika Youth Movement (AYM) is a pan-African, action-oriented, youth-led movement that strives for the active participation, development and leadership of African youth to transform Africa and achieve their rights to equality, peace and social justice. The movement seeks to create a continent that respects the rights of all its citizens, promotes the values of ubuntu, unity, self-determination, integrity and accountability and empowers African youth.

Established in 2015 as a social movement, AYM has grown to a community of over 5,000 active members from 40 countries and has since its inception made representations at the African Union, UNCTAD, GPEDC, UNECA, UNWomen, UNDP, ADB meetings and the UK Parliament etc.

AYM is seeking to expand its core team base to drive current and future engagements across the continent and therefore seeks volunteer grant writing officers

He/she will Work with fundraising officer to provide development input for all written institutional materials (including Annual project Report, Proposals and concept note).

  • Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs; studying requests for proposal (RFPs); attending strategy meetings.
  • Meets proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, and approval; entering and monitoring tracking data; coordinating requirements with contributors; contributing proposal status information to review meetings; transmitting proposals.
  • Gathers proposal information by identifying sources of information; coordinating submissions and collections; identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals.
  • Develops proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation; writing, revising, and editing drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
  • Obtains approvals by reviewing proposal with key providers and project managers.
  • Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate; implementing changes.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Strong contributor in team environments


  • Minimum of two years’ experience with grant writing.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals.
